The history of Ulysse Nardin began in 1846 when the young Ulysse Nardin, then only 23 years old, founded his own manufactory in Le Locle, Switzerland. He started out working with his father, Léonard-Frédéric, and then under the guidance of William Dubois. He perfected his skills with a master specialist in marine chronometers and astronomical watches. The founder specialised in this branch and thus developed an undeniable know-how in the field of timepieces with complications. The flair of the young Ulysse Nardin, who saw the boom in maritime transport as a good opportunity, enabled the young brand to establish itself in the field and to supply the navies of some fifty nations. The company has won 18 gold medals and eight grand prizes at various international exhibitions.
